Progress in the Entryway – Part II

In my last post, I shared our first steps to making over our entryway – if you’re just joining me, check out Part I to see where we started!

By this point, I’d thrown some paint on the wall and taken a look at flooring samples, but I just couldn’t stop seeing the dingy pale blue tone that dominates the “before” shots. I was convinced the carpet was the culprit, so away it went…

A crew of family members joined us for a long day of lugging heavy carpet pulling up tack strips. After pulling up the existing carpet in the foyer, living room and dining room, they were exhausted and ready for us to serve them a nice cold (well-deserved) beer! Here’s a blurry shot of part of our awesome, sweaty crowd, collapsed on all the furniture we’d managed to shove into the kitchen. We’re so lucky to have them!

At last, the blue tones were gone and I was finally starting to see where we were headed with the entryway makeover. I had been questioning whether repainting the banister a matte oil-rubbed bronze made enough of a difference, but now I could see that it really did transform the look of the stairs. Granted, it wouldn’t be my first choice if we were starting from scratch, but the banister now looked more elegant, more classic and more expensive – and I was in no place to turn away from any kind of improvement!

We couldn’t believe our luck when we discovered that not only did the main stairs have hardwood hiding under the carpet, but so did the smaller sets of stairs that drop down into our living and family room areas. Hallelujah!

That’s all on the entryway progress for today, but be sure to check back for my next post where I’ll be sharing all the exciting details on our new flooring!
